Deoxyribokinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.229 deoxyribokinase
Deoxyribokinase is the bacterial deoxyribose-salvage kinase. It phosphorylates 2-deoxy-D-ribose on the 5-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and 2-deoxy-D-ribose 5-phosphate, and is much more active on deoxyribose than on D-ribose (cf. EC 2.7.1.15 ribokinase). It feeds deoxynucleotide and DNA-sugar salvage. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
