Dextranase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.2 Glycosylases > 3.2.1 Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds > 3.2.1.11 dextranase
Dextranase is a dental-plaque polysaccharide-degrading endoglycosidase that endohydrolyses (1->6)-alpha-D-glucosidic linkages in dextran. By cleaving the water-insoluble glucan produced by oral streptococci it prevents dental plaque and caries formation and is used in oral-care products. It is distributed across Eukaryota and Bacteria.
