DGTPase is a nucleotide-sugar-hydrolysing phosphatase that hydrolyses dGTP into deoxyguanosine and triphosphate, and also acts on GTP. By degrading non-canonical and excess dNTPs it cleans the nucleotide pool, prevents misincorporation during DNA replication and contributes to sanitisation of the genetic material. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms and belongs to the dNTP pyrophosphatase family.
