Definition:

EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.5 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups > 2.5.1 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 2.5.1.28 dimethylallylcistransferase
Dimethylallylcistransferase (neryl-diphosphate synthase) is an isoprenoid chain-shortening cis-prenyltransferase. It condenses prenyl diphosphate (dimethylallyl diphosphate) with 3-methylbut-3-en-1-yl diphosphate (isopentenyl diphosphate) in a cis manner, releasing diphosphate and forming neryl diphosphate, the cis-isomer of geranyl diphosphate. It does not use larger prenyl diphosphates as efficient donors. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
