EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.14 Dipeptidyl-peptidases and tripeptidyl-peptidases > 3.4.14.6 dipeptidyl-dipeptidase
Dipeptidyl-dipeptidase is a thiol-activated peptidase from cabbage (Brassica oleracea) that preferentially releases dipeptides from a tetrapeptide, e.g. Ala-Gly-Ala-Gly, acting more slowly on Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala and Gly-Gly-Gly-Gly; tetrapeptides are formed from Ala-Ala, Gly-Gly, Ala-Gly and Gly-Ala. By splitting tetrapeptides it participates in plant proteolysis. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
