Diphthine synthase

Definition:

EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.1 Transferring one-carbon groups > 2.1.1 Methyltransferases > 2.1.1.98 diphthine synthase
Diphthine synthase from archaea carries out three successive methylations on the 2-[(3S)-3-carboxy-3-aminopropyl] side chain of His600 in elongation factor 2, producing diphthine; diphthine is then amidated by EC 6.3.1.14 into diphthamide. The eukaryotic homolog (EC 2.1.1.314) adds a fourth methyl to the carboxyl as methyl ester.
