Melamine deaminase is a deaminase isolated from the bacterium Acidovorax citrulli (now Paracidovorax citrulli) that deaminates melamine 15-fold faster than ammeline; it also acts on 2-chloro-4,6-diamino-s-triazine but not on atrazine (cf. EC 3.8.1.8). It hydrolyzes ammeline into ammelide and ammonia, and melamine into ammeline and ammonia. In bacteria it degrades melamine. It features a deaminase fold.
