Ectoine hydroxylase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.11 With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor > 1.14.11.55 ectoine hydroxylase
Ectoine hydroxylase is an Fe2+- and ascorbate-dependent 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase found in bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes, specific for ectoine. It 5-hydroxylates ectoine to 5-hydroxyectoine, releasing succinate and CO2; 5-hydroxyectoine is a microbial compatible solute/osmoprotectant.
