Endo-chitodextinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.2 Glycosylases > 3.2.1 Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds > 3.2.1.202 endo-chitodextinase
Endo-chitodextrinase is an endo-cleaving chitodextrinase from Vibrio furnissii that participates in the chitin catabolic pathway of Vibrionaceae; unlike chitinase (EC 3.2.1.14) it has no activity on polymeric chitin, the smallest substrate is a tetrasaccharide, and the final products are N,N'-diacetylchitobiose and small amounts of N,N',N''-triacetylchitotriose (cf. exo-chitinase non-reducing end EC 3.2.1.200 and reducing end EC 3.2.1.201). By cutting soluble chitodextrins into chitobiose it completes vibrio chitin assimilation. It is taxonomically restricted to Vibrio furnissii.
