Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.9 enteropeptidase
Enteropeptidase (enterokinase) is an intestinal brush-border serine protease in family S1, not inhibited by trypsin protein inhibitors; it activates trypsinogen by selective cleavage of the Lys6-Ile bond. By generating trypsin it initiates pancreatic digestive protease activation. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
