Eugenol synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.318 eugenol synthase
Eugenol synthase reduces coniferyl acetate to eugenol; the enzymes from Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil), Clarkia breweri and Petunia hybrida only accept coniferyl acetate and form eugenol, whereas the anise (Pimpinella anisum) enzyme forms anol from 4-coumarate. It consumes NADPH and releases the corresponding carboxylate.
