FAD synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.7 Nucleotidyltransferases > 2.7.7.2 FAD synthase
FAD synthase is the Mg2+-requiring flavin-cofactor-activation enzyme. It transfers the adenylyl group from ATP onto FMN, releasing diphosphate and FAD, the cofactor of hundreds of redox enzymes acting in mitochondrial electron transport, photosynthesis, fatty-acid oxidation and B6/B12/folate metabolism. Most prokaryotes have a bifunctional enzyme also carrying EC 2.7.1.26 riboflavin kinase. Expected in Bacteria, Eukaryota and Archaea.
