Feruloyl esterase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.1 Acting on ester bonds > 3.1.1 Carboxylic-ester hydrolases > 3.1.1.73 feruloyl esterase
Feruloyl esterase is the plant-cell-wall-hemicellulose-auxiliary enzyme. It hydrolyzes the 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamoyl (feruloyl) group from esterified sugar (usually arabinose), releasing ferulate and free polysaccharide; p-nitrophenyl acetate and methyl ferulate are poorer substrates. It is secreted and helps xylanases and pectinases. Expected in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
