Flavone apiosyltransferase is a glycosyltransferase that transfers an alpha-D-apiosyl residue from UDP-alpha-D-apiose onto the 2-hydroxyl of the glucose moiety of apigenin 7-O-beta-D-glucoside, releasing UDP and producing apigenin 7-O-[beta-D-apiosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucoside]. The 7-O-beta-D-glucosides of a number of flavonoids and of 4-substituted phenols can act as acceptors. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms and participates in apiose-containing flavonoid glycoside formation.
