Fructokinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.4 fructokinase
Fructokinase is the microbial/plant fructose-phosphorylating kinase. It phosphorylates D-fructose on the 6-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and D-fructose 6-phosphate, feeding glycolysis. It differs from ketohexokinase EC 2.7.1.3, which makes fructose 1-phosphate. Expected in Eukaryota, Bacteria and Archaea.
