Fructose 5-dehydrogenase is a heterotrimeric enzyme characterized from the bacterium Gluconobacter japonicus, composed of an FAD-containing large subunit, a small subunit and a heme c-containing subunit that anchors the complex to the cytoplasmic membrane and transfers electrons to ubiquinone. It oxidizes D-fructose to 5-dehydro-D-fructose, reducing ubiquinone to ubiquinol.
