EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.24 Metalloendopeptidases > 3.4.24.B17 FtsH endopeptidase
M-AAA protease is an integral mitochondrial inner-membrane ATP-dependent zinc metalloendopeptidase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It performs proteolytic degradation of mitochondrial inner-membrane and respiratory-chain proteins, mediating quality control and protein assembly. In mitochondria it maintains respiratory-chain biogenesis. It features an AAA+ ATPase domain fused to a zinc catalytic site.
