Gamma-Renin

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.54 gamma-Renin
Gamma-renin is a tissue-kallikrein-family serine protease in family S1 from submandibular glands of male mice, which cleaves the Leu-Leu bond in synthetic tetradecapeptide renin substrate (horse) to produce angiotensin I but is not active on natural angiotensinogen (unlike renin EC 3.4.23.15), and also hydrolyses Bz-Arg-p-nitroanilide. By generating angiotensin I in rodent salivary glands it participates in the kallikrein-kinin and renin-angiotensin systems. It is taxonomically restricted to Mus musculus.
