Gelatinase A
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.24 Metalloendopeptidases > 3.4.24.24 gelatinase A
Vibriolysin is a thermostable zinc metalloendopeptidase from Vibrio proteolyticus (formerly Aeromonas proteolytica), in peptidase family M4 (thermolysin family), formerly included in EC 3.4.24.4. Its specificity is related to but distinct from thermolysin and bacillolysin. It preferentially cleaves bonds with bulky hydrophobic groups at P2 and P1', and Phe at P1' is the most favoured residue, which distinguishes it from thermolysin. In the bacterium it digests extracellular proteins. It features a thermolysin-like zinc catalytic fold.
