Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.11 With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor > 1.14.11.64 glutarate dioxygenase
Glutarate dioxygenase is an Fe(II)-dependent 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase characterized from E. coli and Pseudomonas putida, participating in L-lysine degradation and providing a CoA-independent route for L-glutarate breakdown. It converts glutarate to (S)-2-hydroxyglutarate, releasing succinate and CO2.
