Granzyme A
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.78 granzyme A
Granzyme A is a cytotoxic T-lymphocyte/natural-killer-cell granule serine protease in family S1; the human enzyme does not cleave Phe bonds; it hydrolyses proteins including fibronectin, type-IV collagen and nucleolin, preferentially cleaving Arg and Lys bonds far more than Phe in small-molecule substrates. By inducing caspase-independent programmed cell death it kills virally infected and transformed cells. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
