Grixazone synthase is a type 3 multi-copper protein isolated from Streptomyces griseus, catalyzing an 8-electron oxidation that requires a copper chaperone (GriE) for activation. Acting on 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoate together with N-acetyl-L-cysteine, it yields grixazone B (with 4 H2O and CO2), and also acts on 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde to give grixazone A, with the second aldehyde group presumably lost as formate.
