Guanylate cyclase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.6 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases > 4.6.1 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 4.6.1.2 guanylate cyclase
Guanylate cyclase converts GTP into 3',5'-cyclic GMP (cGMP) and diphosphate, the second messenger of vision and nitric-oxide signaling; it also acts on ITP and dGTP. It is found in Eukaryota and Bacteria. Structurally it is a class-III nucleotide cyclase.
