Haloalkane dehalogenase

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.8 Acting on halide bonds > 3.8.1 In carbon-halide compounds > 3.8.1.5 haloalkane dehalogenase
Haloalkane dehalogenase acts on a wide range of 1-haloalkanes, haloalcohols, haloalkenes and some haloaromatic compounds; it is found in bacteria, eukaryotes and archaea. It hydrolyzes a 1-haloalkane into a primary alcohol and halide. In organohalogen biodegradation it replaces halide with OH. It features a haloalkane dehalogenase alpha/beta hydrolase.
