Hexadecanol dehydrogenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.164 hexadecanol dehydrogenase
Hexadecanol dehydrogenase catalyzes the NAD+-dependent oxidation of hexadecanol to hexadecanal, concomitantly reducing NAD+ to NADH and releasing H+. The liver enzyme acts on long-chain alcohols from C8 to C16, and the Euglena enzyme additionally oxidizes the corresponding aldehydes to fatty acids. It is found in Bacteria and Eukaryota.
