HycD peptidase is an Escherichia coli [NiFe]-hydrogenase maturation aspartic endopeptidase. It specifically removes a 15-amino-acid peptide from the C-terminus of the precursor of the large subunit of hydrogenase 2 (UniProt P0ACE0). In the bacterium it matures the active hydrogenase. It features a metal-dependent aspartic-protease fold related to HycI.
