Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate dehydrogenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.166 hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate dehydrogenase
Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate dehydrogenase acts on hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylates bearing an equatorial carboxy group at C-1, an axial hydroxy group at C-3 and an equatorial hydroxy or carbonyl group at C-4, including (-)-quinate and (-)-shikimate. Using NAD+, it oxidizes (1S,3R,4S)-3,4-dihydroxycyclohexane-1-carboxylate to (1S,4S)-4-hydroxy-3-oxocyclohexane-1-carboxylate, concomitantly reducing NAD+ to NADH and releasing H+. It has been reported from Lactiplantibacillus plantarum.
