Hydroxyethylthiazole kinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.50 hydroxyethylthiazole kinase
Hydroxyethylthiazole kinase is the thiamine-biosynthesis thiazole-activation kinase. It phosphorylates 4-methyl-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)thiazole on the side-chain hydroxyl, releasing ADP and 4-methyl-5-(2-phosphooxyethyl)thiazole, which is condensed with the hydroxymethylpyrimidine phosphate to form thiamine monophosphate. Expected in Eukaryota, Bacteria and Archaea.
