IkappaB kinase (IKK) is the NF-kB-activating Ser/Thr kinase. It phosphorylates IkB proteins at specific serines, releasing ADP and marking them for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation; release of NF-kB then drives inflammation, immunity, cell proliferation and apoptosis. If the serines are replaced by threonines, activity drops sharply. Expected in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
