Pterin deaminase is a deaminase found in bacteria and eukaryotes; the animal enzyme is specific for pterin, isoxanthopterin and tetrahydropterin. It hydrolyzes a 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine into a 2,4-dihydroxypteridine and ammonia. In pterin metabolism it converts pterin to xanthopterin. It features a deaminase fold.
