Indigoidine synthase is a non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) found in many bacteria. It activates two L-glutamine molecules with ATP and FMN to form 3-amino-1,5-dihydropyridine-2,6-dione, which spontaneously oxidizes in air to the blue pigment indigoidine. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is an NRPS-driven blue-pigment synthetase.
