O-sialoglycoprotein endopeptidase is a zinc metalloendopeptidase secreted by the bacterium Pasteurella haemolytica, the type example of peptidase family M22, inhibited by EDTA (100 mM) and 1,10-phenanthroline. It hydrolyzes O-sialoglycoproteins, cleaving the -Arg31-/-Asp- bond in glycophorin A, and does not cleave unglycosylated proteins, desialylated glycoproteins or N-glycosylated glycoproteins. In the pathogen it destroys host O-glycosylated surface proteins. It features an M22-family zinc catalytic fold specific for mucin-type O-glycans.
