Isopullulanase is a pullulan-converting glycosidase with practically no action on starch, which hydrolyses pullulan into isopanose (6-alpha-maltosylglucose) and further hydrolyses panose (4-alpha-isomaltosylglucose) into isomaltose and glucose (cf. pullulanase EC 3.2.1.41 and neopullulanase EC 3.2.1.135). By cutting pullulan at alpha-1,4 linkages it supports microbial pullulan utilisation. It is distributed across Bacteria and Eukaryota.
