Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.2 Glycosylases > 3.2.1 Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds > 3.2.1.B43 keratanase II
Keratanase II is a keratan-sulfate-degrading endoglycosidase from Niallia circulans that endohydrolyses N-acetylglucosaminyl linkages in keratan, releasing beta-D-Gal-(1->4)-GlcNAc disaccharides carrying one or two sulfo groups, or tetrasaccharides beta-D-Gal-(1->4)-beta-D-GlcNAc-(1->3)-beta-D-Gal-(1->4)-GlcNAc. By depolymerising keratan sulfate it supports cartilage and corneal glycosaminoglycan turnover.
