Ketohexokinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.3 ketohexokinase
Ketohexokinase is the hepatic fructose-metabolizing kinase. It phosphorylates D-fructose on the 1-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and D-fructose 1-phosphate; D-sorbose, D-tagatose, 5-dehydro-D-fructose and other ketoses and analogues can also act. It drives fructose absorption and lipogenesis, and is distinct from the fructose-6-phosphorylating fructokinase. Expected in Eukaryota and Archaea.
