Kojibiose hydrolase

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.2 Glycosylases > 3.2.1 Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds > 3.2.1.216 kojibiose hydrolase
Kojibiose hydrolase is an anomer-inverting exoglucosidase characterised from Flavobacterium johnsoniae and Mucilaginibacter mallensis, which uses an inverting mechanism to release beta-D-glucose from the non-reducing ends of kojibiose and higher-polymerisation alpha-1,2-oligoglucans, so that kojibiose plus water gives beta-D-glucopyranose and D-glucopyranose. By releasing beta-glucose from the alpha-1,2-linked disaccharide it supports bacterial utilisation of nigerose/kojibiose-type glucans. It is distributed across Bacteria and Archaea.
