L-ascorbate peroxidase

Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.11 Acting on a peroxide as acceptor > 1.11.1 Peroxidases > 1.11.1.11 L-ascorbate peroxidase
L-Ascorbate peroxidase is a heme protein found in viruses and cellular organisms. It reduces H2O2 at the expense of ascorbate (and low-molecular-weight aromatic substrates), oxidizing 2 ascorbate to 2 monodehydroascorbate radicals with 2 H2O; the radical is either reduced back to ascorbate by monodehydroascorbate reductase (NADH) EC 1.6.5.4 or disproportionates non-enzymically to ascorbate and dehydroascorbate.
