Lactate racemase
Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.1 Racemases and epimerases > 5.1.2 Acting on hydroxy acids and derivatives > 5.1.2.1 lactate racemase
Lactate racemase, characterized from Lactobacillus plantarum and apparently restricted to lactic acid bacteria, interconverts (S)- and (R)-lactate. It contains a unique nickel-containing cofactor, the pyridinium-3-thioamide-5-thiocarboxylate mononucleotide Ni-pincer complex. It is found in Bacteria and Archaea. Structurally it is a Ni-pincer lactate racemase.
