Limulus clotting factor C

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.84 limulus clotting factor C
Limulus clotting factor C is a horseshoe-crab serine protease in family S1 from haemocyte granules of Limulus and Tachypleus, activated by Gram-negative bacterial lipopolysaccharide and chymotrypsin and inhibited by antithrombin III; it selectively cleaves Arg103-Ser and Ile124-Ile bonds in limulus clotting factor B to form active factor B, and cleaves Pro-Arg bonds in synthetic substrates. By sensing LPS it triggers the horseshoe-crab coagulation cascade in response to Gram-negative infection. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
