Littorine synthase is a plant tropane-alkaloid acyltransferase isolated from Atropa belladonna. It condenses (R)-phenyllactyl-beta-D-glucose with tropine, releasing D-glucose and forming littorine, the immediate precursor of the tropane alkaloid L-hyoscyamine (S-atropine). It participates in the biosynthetic pathway of hyoscyamine and scopolamine in Solanaceous medicinal plants.
