Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.5 Intramolecular lyases > 5.5.1 Intramolecular lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 5.5.1.19 lycopene beta-cyclase
Lycopene beta-cyclase is a non-redox flavoprotein containing FADH2 used for transition-state stabilization; cyclizing the ψ-end group of lycopene into a β-end group: acting on one end gives γ-carotene, on both ends β-carotene; it also acts on neurosporene to give β-zeacarotene. It is found in Eukaryota, Bacteria and Archaea. Structurally it is a carotenoid cyclase.
