EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.24 Metalloendopeptidases > 3.4.24.B18 m-AAA protease
I-AAA protease is an integral mitochondrial inner-membrane ATP-dependent zinc metalloendopeptidase found in eukaryotes and bacteria. It performs proteolytic degradation of mitochondrial inner-membrane proteins, mediating quality control and cristae remodeling. In mitochondria it maintains respiratory-chain and cristae homeostasis. It features an AAA+ ATPase domain fused to a zinc catalytic site.
