Choriolysin L is a 24-kDa zinc metalloendopeptidase of peptidase family M12 (astacin family), known from the teleost fish Oryzias latipes (medaka), which together with choriolysin H efficiently dissolves the egg envelope. It hydrolyzes the inner layer of the fish egg envelope, and also casein and small-molecule substrates such as succinyl-Leu-Leu-Val-Tyr-/-7-(4-methyl)coumarylamide. At fertilization it digests the chorion to allow hatching. It features an M12-family zinc catalytic domain.
