Maltokinase is a maltose-phosphorylating sugar kinase requiring Mg2+. It phosphorylates maltose on the 1-hydroxyl of the reducing-end glucose, releasing ADP and alpha-maltose 1-phosphate, an activated maltose used in amylopectin/glycogen-like synthesis. Expected in Bacteria and Eukaryota.
