Methylornithine synthase is a radical AdoMet enzyme superfamily member binding a [4Fe-4S] cluster coordinated by 3 cysteines and an exchangeable S-adenosyl-L-methionine; it is part of the pyrrolysine biosynthetic pathway, the naturally occurring amino acid found in some archaeal methyltransferases. It isomerizes L-lysine into (3R)-3-methyl-D-ornithine. Structurally it is a radical SAM methylmutase.
