(-)-Beta-pinene synthase is a Mg2+-preferring monoterpene cyclase. Cyclase II of Salvia officinalis produces about equal parts (-)-alpha-pinene, (-)-beta-pinene and (-)-camphene plus traces of other monoterpenoids; it prefers (3S)-linalyl diphosphate. The Abies grandis enzyme produces roughly equal parts (-)-alpha-pinene and (-)-beta-pinene. It cyclizes geranyl diphosphate into (-)-beta-pinene and diphosphate. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a monoterpene cyclase.
