Mismatch-specific endonuclease

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.1 Acting on ester bonds > 3.1.21 Endodeoxyribonucleases producing 5'-phosphomonoesters > 3.1.21.B3 mismatch-specific endonuclease
Mismatch-specific endonuclease is the archaeal mismatch-repair enzyme. It cleaves both strands at mismatched G/T, G/G, T/T, T/C and A/G (prefers G/T, G/G, T/T), cutting the third phosphodiester bond on the 5' side of the mismatch to leave a 5-nt 5'-protruding cohesive end. Expected in Archaea, Eukaryota and Bacteria.
