Noscapine synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.415 noscapine synthase
Noscapine synthase, characterized from Papaver somniferum (opium poppy), catalyzes the last step in biosynthesis of the isoquinoline alkaloid noscapine. Using NAD+, it oxidizes narcotine hemiacetal to noscapine, concomitantly reducing NAD+ to NADH and releasing H+.
