EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.24 Metalloendopeptidases > 3.4.24.70 oligopeptidase A
Endothelin-converting enzyme 1 is a phosphoramidon-sensitive integral membrane zinc metalloendopeptidase in peptidase family M13 (neprilysin family), predominantly of endothelial cells. It hydrolyzes the -Trp21-/-Val- bond in big endothelin to form the potent vasoconstrictor endothelin 1 from its inactive precursor. In the endothelium it generates endothelin 1 and controls vascular tone. It features an M13-family zinc catalytic ectodomain.
