Pancreatic elastase II
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.71 Pancreatic elastase II
Pancreatic elastase II is a pancreatic serine endopeptidase in family S1 formed by tryptic activation of proelastase II from mammalian pancreas; usually only one pancreatic elastase (cf. EC 3.4.21.36) is expressed in a given species, and human pancreatic elastase is type II; it preferentially cleaves Leu, Met and Phe bonds and hydrolyses elastin. By digesting dietary proteins and elastin it completes pancreatic proteolysis. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
